KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Paul Hunt
Chief Human Rights Commissioner of New Zealand
A national of Aotearoa and UK, Paul Hunt studied law at Cambridge University and Waikato University. He has lived, and undertaken human rights work, in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Aotearoa. For more than a decade, Paul served as an independent human rights expert for the United Nations, reporting to the UN General Assembly and UN Human Rights Council. Between 2011 and 2013, he was senior human rights adviser to WHO Assistant Director-General Dr. Flavia Bustreo.

Paul has published extensively on human rights and has been awarded two Honorary Doctorates in recognition of his scholarship. He was appointed New Zealand’s Chief Human Rights Commissioner in 2019, and just last year, he was awarded the Ann Dysart Distinguished Service Award by the civil society organisation, Multicultural New Zealand. Paul’s focus on the human rights to healthcare and health protection is clear in the trail blazed by his work, and we are so excited to have the privilege of his attendance as a Keynote Speaker at GROW 2023!

LIGHTNING TALK 1: ASPECTS OF ABLEISM
Patients with disabilities face a number of unique challenges under the umbrella of “Ableism”. Through this lightning talk, we aim to give the voices of some of our many disabled communities in Aotearoa a platform, reaching the hearts of our future-clinician delegates. Speakers including Becki Moss and Alice Mander will bring to light the experiences of the person who has a disability and the considerations we need to be showing for our patients with disabilities.
LIGHTNING TALK 2: PEOPLE OF AOTEAROA
Building relationships with people is a key aspect in our clinical career but it can be easy to stay within a box in our medical journey. However, the more exposure and awareness to issues outside of our curriculum, the better equipped we are to provide the best care to others. With amazing wāhine speaking about their experiences such as Vira Grace Paky, Dr. Kelly Feng, and Sarah Donaldson, we are sure to widen our scope of the world and, ultimately, our practice.
POLITICS PANEL
Dr. Siouxsie Wiles, Dr. Rawiri Jansen and Dr. David Galler will be sharing their perspectives on both the way we can provide equitable healthcare within an inherently political system and, by extension, the change needed in that system. We are extremely privileged and excited to have such an amazing lineup for this Politics Panel, a crowd-favourite part of our conference. The moderator for this will be announced soon!
Social Programme
The A-MAS-ING Race. A Cocktail Night. A Gala Dinner - All in One Weekend?
