2024 Annual Jacksonville Ethics Program “Electronic Era Ethics” presented by Tom Spahn

This interactive program uses hypotheticals to highlight the dramatic effect email, texts and other electronic communications have had on lawyers’ ethics duties. The program generally follows the lifespan of an attorney-client relationship, including: creation of the relationship (such as the effect of an unsolicited email from a would-be client); the ethical propriety of electronic communications with clients (especially lawyers who practice “virtually”); communications with adversaries (including “reply all” emails, lawyers’ response to inadvertently transmitted communications, and metadata); dealing with third parties (such as service providers and outsourced colleagues); discovery (such as accessing adverse witnesses’ social media); jurors’ research and communications; judges’ research and “friending” of lawyers; attorney-client relationships’ termination.

From the Beaches: Take J. TURNER BUTLER BLVD. WEST to I-95 N. From I-95 N, follow to EXIT # 350A (Downtown). Get into the exit lane for MAIN ST. Go over the Main Street Bridge. Stay in the SECOND LEFT LANE for the LEFT turn Exit, Make a LEFT turn onto BAY ST. PARKING GARAGE is located immediately on the RIGHT and Entrance is located with a large BLUE “P”.

Traveling on I-95 North: Exit #350A (Downtown). Get into the exit lane for MAIN ST. Go over the Main Street Bridge. Stay in the SECOND LEFT LANE for the LEFT turn Exit, Make a LEFT turn onto BAY ST. PARKING GARAGE is located immediately on the RIGHT and Entrance is located with a large BLUE “P”.

Traveling on I- 95 South: Exit #353B (Union Street). Exit is from the left hand lane towards DOWNTOWN/SPORTS COMPLEX. Keep LEFT at the fork to go on W UNION ST. Turn RIGHT onto N MAIN ST. Turn RIGHT onto BAY ST. PARKING GARAGE is located immediately on the RIGHT and Entrance is located with a large BLUE “P”.

From the Parking Garage, Cross Bay Street and Enter into the Wells Fargo Building. Once on the First Floor Lobby, Look for the Middle Elevator Bay that says Floor 24-35. The event will be held on the 35th floor.

At the entrance of the parking garage, there will be a ticket booth. Please pull a ticket and the arm will raise. River Club parking is on any level.

Please  bring your parking ticket with you into The River Club for validation. Upon exiting the parking garage, guests will scan the parking ticket to exit.

If you have any issues, PLEASE PRESS THE CALL BUTTON FOR ASSISTANCE. Tell the attendant that you are leaving an event at The River Club, and they will raise the arm for you. Payment is not required for any events associated with The River Club. Thank you!
