Liberation Echos: A Juneteenth Celebration
Juneteenth is the annual commemoration of the official emancipation of the ancestors of today’s African Americans who were enslaved on this colonized land.
Although it began as a Galveston ritual, it has spread far beyond Texas and throughout the larger Black community as a celebratory tradition.
This June 19th, we extend this celebration with an event in collaboration with the Brooklyn Center for Theatre Research.
Somewhere in-between a party and an exhibition, the event takes place in multiple rooms on both floors of the space, featuring a selection of recent works on paper, paintings, sculpture, performance, and food by artists of the Cooper Union Black Student Union (BSU) and the larger black community. The display will be accompanied by a series of live performances, readings, and durational artworks, as well as ongoing set performances by NCP Radio DJs.
A portion of the funds made from this ticketed event will support the artists and organizers who make a celebration like this possible.
